Perinton Ambulance began in 1965 as a part time, volunteer, basic life support (BLS) service for the approximately 18,000 residents of the Village of Fairport and the Town of Perinton. Initially we didn't even have an ambulance and our trained volunteers were "loaned" to us from East Rochester Ambulance. The first coverage was only weekends, with evening hours being added before the end of the year. By the late '70s, PVAC began filling shifts 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week. In 1979, PVAC voluntarily became Certified Ambulance
Corps by the State of New York. The 1970's also saw the beginning of
a volunteer Advanced Life Support Corps. The South East Quadrant Mobile
Critical Care Unit (SEQ) is made up of the four
member corps' - Pittsford, Perinton, Penfield and East Rochester.
At the dawn of the new millenium, Perinton Ambulance operates a fleet of three vehicles and serves a town of about 45,000 residents. In 2001, we responded to over 3000 calls. Consistently for twenty years, we were the only All Volunteer ambulance corps with 100% crew coverage in Western New York. For that reason alone, we are in a greater need of volunteers to help us staff our ambulances. We operate out of our headquarters stationed at 1400 Turk Hill Road in Fairport, NY. Monroe Community College & the American Red Cross (among others) utilize the flexible training space to educate and teach various courses including the basic EMT class and CPR. Perinton Ambulance sponsors a medical Explorer Scout Troop and also provides scholarships for young adults attending college in a health related field. We truly are a part of the Perinton community and provide a place for motivated and talented people to make an important contribution.
